my wood lathe is smoking every time im working with it. i bought the lathe from harbor freight tool for 100 buck but the smell is strong its like burning plastic inside

A properly working motor should not be smoking and/or smelling. If your purchase was recent see if you can exchange it for one the doesn’t smoke. If not see if the motor has brushes that you can access to check them and see if changing them would help. Otherwise there are companies that specialize in electric motor rewinding–that could be an option for you.

I would return it. Something is wrong with the motor. If you smell burning plastic, something inside the motor is melting.
